This piece was created at the end of my high school career as part of my final exhibition. It marks a reflection on my own womanhood and the experience of coming into an adult body. The development of breasts and hips brought with it an unavoidable awareness of objectification and sexualisation, not only from others, but from myself.
The work explores the tension between grappling with society’s objectification of the female body and the simultaneous, enticing pull to be admired by the male gaze. Indulge Me represents not only the spectator’s perception of my body, but also the internal desire to be admired, desired, and indulged.
